I thought for the new year to jump start my reading and this blog, I need something new to read my books on instead of my phone. After research a lot, I settled on the Kobo Forma (learn more here).

There are always pros and cons when it comes to selected just the right e-reader. Kindle/Amazon has such a locked down ecosystem. Nook books cost a considerable amount more, in my opinion. But Kobo, Kobo is rather flexible. It offers the ability to read books in so many different formats, even is amazon’s MOBI format. Here are the different types of formats that can be used on the Kobo Forma.

14 file formats supported natively (EPUB, EPUB3, PDF, MOBI, JPEG, GIF, PNG, BMP, TIFF, TXT, HTML, RTF, CBZ, CBR)

From the Kobo Forma Device Page

Did I mention the screen real estate is huge on this device? The screen is 8 inches, that is larger than most e-readers from Kindle and Nook. You can rotate it anyway you want to read. Plus there are physical turn page keys that adjust for whatever way you are reading. This is great for left handed people, but I am right handed.

The Forma has a great battery life from my testing. There are no ads displayed when the screen is off, unlike the Kindle. It has a built in light that also offers adjustable blue light filtering. I use the filter all the time between the reader, my computer, and my phone.

The interface is easy to use and navigate. Overdrive for public library books and Dropbox are integrated nicely into the system. This makes it easier to read books from my collection on the device. Just move them to the Dropbox folder and BAM I am access them on the reader. I have a large collection of ebooks that I organize through Calibre. This makes it easier to for me to grab any book from my collection. Everything just seems fast and easy to find on the device.

So far during my use I have loved the forma! I recently read The Evolution of Claire on it and the experience was amazing. It was encribably light weight much makes carrying it around easy. I have been carrying it around a lot more than I have with any of my previous e-reader.

So far, I am beyond pleased with my purchase. If you are the market for a new e-reader I would strongly recommend you take a look at the Kobo Forma. Let me know in the comments below what type of e-reader you use or if you have any questions about my experience with the Forma.
